An infographic map showing the density of toxic sites located in Portland due to mismanagement of chemical waste, including additional information about brownfields, the Oregon DEQ, and the Environmental Protection Agency.

Methodology

Data:

Oregon DEQ Environmental Cleanup Site Information (ECSI) Database.

Process:

• Export CSV file from ECSI database in order to create a point dataset.

• Create a kernel density of points that focuses on pollution from two specific industries: pesticides and construction.

• Export to Adobe Illustrator to create layout, text and graphic elements.
